School Activities
Bricks 4 Kids
Bricks 4 Kids in Ireland provides a comprehensive suite of STEM based programmes through Lego. Children work together to create Lego models. While children are having fun, they are also developing important life skills such as problem solving, communications and spatial intelligence, whilst also enhancing their self-confidence and self-esteem.
Gaelic Football
Gaelic Football for boys and girls was the most popular sport in our school. Weekly coaching sessions were arranged after school and our school teams participated in the Cumann na mBunscol primary schools leagues. Our local club, St Fechin's GFC, also supported the development of young players by arranging additional coaching sessions in the skills of Gaelic Football in our school.
Hurling
The game of hurling had become very popular in our area in recent years due to great work being done at club level by St. Fechin's GFC. There were regular coaching sessions for our hurlers at school and we entered a school team in the Cumann na mBunscol Primary Schools League.
Chess
In recent years the pupils in our school have developed a great interest in the game of chess. Many of the senior pupils participated in the School Chess Club and there was regular coaching by experienced chess players. The school team plays in the Drogheda Primary Schools Chess League every year and there are also competitions played in our school during the months of winter and spring. Many of our pupils continue to play the game when they graduate to secondary school.
Instrumental Music & Choir
For pupils who have an interest in music, there was after-school classes in tin whistle. We are fortunate to have a number of very talented musicians on our teaching staff and instrumental music classes for pupils throughout the year.
Children who enjoy singing also had the opportunity to join our school choir. The local community have the opportunity to hear the children in our school choir at First Communion and Confirmation each year as well as other church services.
